Blue Mail – another path to inbox sanity

Ah yes, the inbox. It torments us, business users especially, with its constant demands for attention. Check this, do that, follow up here and then you start to wonder if it will ever let you leave. You leave work and yet there’s your inbox staring up at you from your smartphone screen. Never fear, a solution is here! Na, na, na, na – Blue Mail.blue mail

What does it do?

Lifehacker’s Mihir Patkar puts it best:

If you like to look at your email as if it were a to-d0 list, then get Blue Mail. It lets you snooze emails for later so they act as reminders, and you can even turn your inbox into a task list and mark each message as “done.”

It’s pretty easy to use swiping right on any message gives you two options both call “Later,” the first of which will release that message three hours later. Option number two, lets you pick the time that you will be reminded about that email. To pick the time you want the reminder, you go into the app’s settings and change the time there. If you swipe right on a message you get two options, “Done” or “Delete.” If you choose done, a check mark is added to the mail in question, letting you know that it’s been dealt with. You can also filter your mail to see either your entire inbox or just the emails not labeled “Done” or  “Later.”

The major advantage this app has over the Android Mailbox app is that it works with more than just Gmail or iCloud and a Dropbox account is not required. Other pluses, it supports synching for multiple mail accounts and IMAP/SMTP protocol.
